I've only seen the first few episodes of the anime, but I'm still fascinated by the decision to externalise a bunch of Youko's early internal conflict. (There are two classmates(?) that get teleported into the other world with her who cause some trouble, and they don't exist in the novel; there, it's aaaaaall about Youko's character development for a good long while.)
I'm happy to say that from what I've reread so far, the books mostly (aside from a little bit of repetetiveness) still hold up. :D
